The client provides an authoring tool to generate various kinds of assessments. This has been built with multiple years of AI research by the founders exclusively in question generation for edtech. The client partnered with us for the tool development. 

Challenge

The client wanted to develop an Assessment Engine that could automatically generate assessments from written content, such as articles and scholarly papers. They wanted to eliminate the need for manual assessment creation and grading, which can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. Additionally, the company wanted to improve the accuracy and consistency of assessments, while also providing students with personalized feedback.  

 

Some of the customer challenges addressed were: 

  • Time-consuming process of creating assessments manually, especially for large volumes of content. 
  • Inconsistency in the quality and accuracy of assessments created by different individuals. 
  • Limited pool of experts available to create assessments, leading to bottleneck and delays in the assessment process. 
  • Difficulty in ensuring assessments are aligned with the learning objectives and curriculum standards. 
  • Lack of scalability to accommodate increasing demand for assessments as more content is produced. 

Solution

The company partnered with our team of AI and machine learning experts to develop an Assessment Engine that leveraged natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to automatically create assessments. The engine was designed to analyze written content and generate multiple-choice questions, short answers, and essays that test a student’s understanding of the material. 

 

We built several key features into the Assessment Engine, including: 

  • NLP algorithms that could identify the key concepts and topics in a given piece of content. 
  • A machine learning model that could generate questions based on the identified concepts and topics. 
  • A database of pre-existing questions and answers that the engine could draw from to create new assessments. 
  • An adaptive learning system that could personalize the difficulty and content of the assessments based on the student’s performance. 
  • Automatically generate “incorrect” answer choices for multiple-choice questions based on a library of related content terms.
